A few days ago I wrote about Kelli Ward who is running in Arizona seeking to unseat John McCain. In North Carolina there is a chance to right a wrong and take out another of the old guard.
In December Dr. Greg Brannon announced that he would be challenging incumbent, Republican Richard Burr to represent North Carolina in the United States Senate.
Richard Burr was elected to the United States House of Representatives, representing North Carolina’s 5th District, in 1994, a position he held until he was elected into the Senate in 2004. FreedomWorks gives Senator Burr a lifetime score of 74% since he joined the Senate; however the past year saw his FreedomWorks score fall to 53%. Conservative Review’s Liberty Score is an F at 45%. It should also be noted that last month Senator Burr voted for the $1.1 trillion Omnibus spending bill.
On January 21st the Associated Press ran a story on how others in Congress feel about Senator Ted Cruz’s Presidential run including this gem from Senator Burr:
Still, Cruz has become such a pariah that one of his colleagues, Sen. Richard Burr of North Carolina, told supporters at a campaign fundraiser for his own re-election that he would vote for liberal Sen. Bernie Sanders for president before Cruz, according to one person who attended the event. Burr did not appear to be joking, said the person, who demanded anonymity to discuss the private gathering.
Richard Burr has vehemently denied the report but the AP is standing by their story.
Many may recognize the name Greg Brannon as two years ago he and 7 others ran in the North Carolina Republican primary for the chance to oppose Democrat Kay Hagan in the general election. Dr. Brannon finished second in the primary to DC establishment’s preferred candidate Thom Tillis who went on to defeat Senator Hagan for the seat.
In his first year in the Senate Thom Tillis has amassed a FreedomWorks score of 47% and a Conservative Review Freedom Score of 33%. Senator Tillis most notable act since he became Senator is to suggest that restaurant workers shouldn’t be required to wash their hands, detailed in this Washington Post article.
Dr. Greg Brannon received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and is a practicing private OB/GYN in Cary, North Carolina. He has been married to Jody Brannon for 27 years, together they have 7 children, 3 of them adopted.
Following my publishing of this story Dr. Greg Brannon was interviewed on Glenn Beck’s nationally syndicated radio show. That interview can be heard below.
