On February 26th the Hollywood types will meet for this year’s edition of The Academy Awards, sure to be filled with lots of self love, sanctimonious speeches and sermonizing from the likes of Meryl Streep, who in the last few days has called herself “the most over-berated actress … of my generation” (ironically Ms Streep made this declaration at a ceremony where she was receiving an award).

If you’re like me and have no interest in watching the festivities in Hollywood you may be excited to learn that there will be an alternative this year.  On February 9th The Morning Blaze radio host Doc Thompson joined Tomi Lahren on her show on The Blaze TV to announce the inaugural edition of The Snowflake awards as a competition to The Oscars.

Below you can watch the episode of Tomi Lahren’s show where the announcement was made, applicable portion begins at the 31:35 mark.

The Snowflakes Award website shares the following description:

“Please help us salute the fragile, frail, and feeble famous by voting for your favorite snowflakes below.”

“The Snowflake Awards was established to honor notable hypersensitive citizens, those who, when subjected to the slightest pressures of life, begin to melt!”

“Watch the Snowflake awards Sunday night 2.26.17!”

Categories include Best Faux Humanitarian, Best Hypocrite and the biggie, Best Snowflake. The website includes a chance for you to participate by voting for your choices.

On his morning program Doc Thompson has also discussed other awards that will be presented, such as a lifetime achievement award (my guess is Al Gore) to be selected by the executive committee, along with other surprises. I fully expect fun, frivolity, lots of sarcasm, mixed in with a certain amount of disorganization and maybe some technical difficulties. Just remember it’s all in fun and anything has to be better than the Oscars.
