In May Captain Clay Higgins, formerly of the St Landry Parish, Louisiana police department announced that he would be seeking the open seat in Louisiana’s Third Congressional District. In Louisiana’s Congressional races there are no primaries, all names seeking the office are listed on the November ballot and if no one reaches 50% there is a run-off between the top two a month later (this year that would be on December 10th). You can watch Captain Higgins’ official announcement here.

Captain Higgins’ biggest claim to fame were his viral no-nonsense Crime Stoppers videos, for numerous examples I would suggest you go to YouTube and do a search for Captain Clay Higgins Crime Stopper Videos. His most watched and subsequently his final video was where Captain Higgins addressed the local Gremlins street gang:
“If you raise your weapon to a man like me, we’ll return fire with superior fire. … I’ll meet you on solid ground anytime, anywhere, light or heavy, makes no difference to me. You won’t walk away,”
Following the video social justice warriors including the gangs family members and the ACLU came out against Captain Higgins’ statements. Rather than backing down he ended up resigning from the St Landry Parish police force.
On July 6th Captain Clay Higgins was interviewed by Doc Thompson and Skip Lacombe on The Morning Blaze on TheBlaze Radio Network.
During the interview Mr. Higgins discussed his love of God, family and country. He stated that after leaving his post in St Landry Parish he went on to serving as a Deputy Marshal for the City of Lafayette. He also stated that his previous experience was with the Military Police in the US Army.
As a final note I offer Clay Higgins’ inspirational “American United” video
